Damage and Travel Protection for your Vacation Rental Home

With VacationRentalDesk.com you can protect your vacation rental home against damage and generate more bookings with Damage and Travel Protection Plans. 

Guests purchase a small damage waiver instead of paying large up-front refundable damage deposit, reducing sticker shock and encouraging more bookings. 

In addition, by offering Travel Insurance to guests you can give guests the confidence to book your rental knowing their reservation investment is protected.

Damage Protection

Protect your property's contents against accidental damage, as well as theft to the rental owner's property, while simplifying reservation management by eliminating the collection of large up-front refundable damage deposits.

Protection coverage can be configured for your rentals as:

  • $1,000 of coverage for $49.00 per reservation  
  • $1,500 of coverage for $59.00 per reservation (Default Setting)
  • $3,000 of coverage for $69.00 per reservation  


Guests pay for coverage using the credit card on file with their reservation. Coverage is opened with a single click from the Coverage tab of the reservation order. A coverage policy document is automatically emailed to you, the owner, and a receipt of purchase is sent to the guest. 

Damage protection can be configured as either optional or mandatory (default). The recommended setting is mandatory because it saves you time managing payments and also increases the uniformity from one reservation to the next. However, if set to optional the guest will be given the choice of either purchasing the one-time damage protection plan or paying the refundable damage deposit. 

Claims are made online in a very simple step by step wizard from the Coverage tab of the reservation order. A claim link will be emailed to you from our partner and industry leader in vacation rental protection, RentalGuardian.com, which will ask you for your contact information as well as receipts and photos of the damage. Claims must be filed within 15 days of checkout, after which you will have a maximum of 45 days to make repairs and submit receipts. Claims are then adjudicated with 7 days and you will be reimbursed for 100% of replacement costs.

Should you wish to change the coverage limits for Damage Protection please let me know and I'd be happy to edit them. If you want to edit the optional/mandatory setting for Damage Protection or any other configuration settings you may do so in Settings > Damage & Travel Protection from your Reservation Dashboard.

Travel Protection

Travel Protection is optional, meaning guests must choose to add it to their reservation. When booking online, guests can choose between two travel products:

  • Standard Travel Protection: 7% of the reservation total
  • Enhanced Travel Protection: 9.8% of the reservation total


Standard Travel Protection secures 100% the guest's pre-paid reservation costs in case of cancellation, delay or interruption for up to 30 covered reasons including: illness, injury, natural disasters, or travel delays. Reservations must be made 30 days in advance for this option to be available when booking.

Enhanced travel protection, also known as Cancel For Any Reason travel protection, includes all the benefits of Standard Travel Protection plus the option to cancel their reservation for any reason. If the guest elects to cancel their reservation for a reason not covered under standard covered reasons, then 60% of the guest's pre-paid reservation costs are refunded. Currently this protection is not available to residents of Washington and New York. Furthermore, reservations must be made at least 15 days in advance for this option to be available when booking.

Please note that Travel Protection is only available for reservations that are 90 days or less in length and to US residents traveling to US and international destinations not subject to published travel restrictions by the US government.

Guests have up to 15 days from the time of purchase to cancel their coverage.

If guests do not elect to purchase coverage at the time of booking, they can still purchase coverage up to 14 days after the booking is made.
